Only in PBO

You know you live in the "Pitt" when you go to the ONLY cleaners in town and the sign on the door says "be back soon have gone to the post office".

The Party of NO will never say yes.

I really believe if Jesus Christ were resurrected and Obama nominated him for the Supreme Court, the Right would just automatically launch into a smear campaign. Jesus was a bit of a socialist you know...and oh, the empathy thing.

Guantanamo is a symbol of American abuse, COSE IT

Cuba is only 90 miles from FLORIDA!!!! Why aren't people afraid that the Guantanamo detainees will escape, brave the Florida Strait, find their way to South Beach and wreck havoc with our way of life. Guantanamo is located on the coast and the security does not appear to be nearly as good as many of the maximum security facilities in the US. How many Cuban refugees have "escaped" and found their way here? This current argument regarding the detainees is ridiculous! It is distracting the Congress and the President from getting the real problems fixed

Why did we put people in Guantanamo to begin with? So we could do ANYTHING we wanted to do with them!!!!! They were not really on American soil so our actions did not come under constitutional scrutiny. Memorial Day weekend is always a time for gushy patriotic rhetoric...well we cannot have it both ways...we cannot profess to be the harbor of democracy and decency but behave like medieval thugs. The Bush administration was always on shaky legal ground with its enemy combatant designation and created a cause celebre for those who wanted to find fault with the United States. The Republicans who are saying that the Obama Administration wants to bring the Guantanamo prisoners into the US and set them free and give them money is absolutely ridiculous. What person in their right mind would believe this? I can assure you there are minions repeating this just because they heard it from Rush, Sean, or some other wingnut. They do not think, they parrot. Why couldn't the US prison system "hold" these individuals? Charles Manson is not running around free.

correction

Evidently Ted Kennedy's cancer is not in remission. Senator Reed misspoke yesterday. However he (Ted) will return to the Senate after Memorial Day. While we are here lets say that it is time for the Dems to rid themselves of Pelosi AND Reid.

Pittsboro Police Report

Every week (not day) the Chatham Record (newspaper) comes out. The police report for Pittsboro today contains the following entries:

"Damage to property was reported May 9 at the McDonald's in Pittsboro when someone struck the drive-thru post causing an estimated $1,ooo in damage. Officer Donna Meyers responded that the case is considered closed."

"There was a report of larceny May 7 at Andy's Cheeseburgers on East Street in Pittsboro. Someone allegedly left without paying for a cheeseburger meal valued at $5.33."

" There was a report of criminal damage to property on May 9 at a Kangaroo Station in Pittsboro when someone reportedly bled on bags of ice valued at $16.35. Officer Donna Meyers investigated but the case is closed."

Now if you don't think this is a rockin' place then I just don't know what is.

Bye Bye Braves...Hello Canes!!!!

We are resurrected hockey fans (remember the Flames?). The Carolina Hurricanes have become our pro team of choice.

Baby Bird Update & Squirrel Scourge

The wren eggs have hatched and the baby birds are crammed in the nest. I think there are 5 or 6 of them. They are really cute and their mom and dad are wearing themselves out keeping the little babies fed.

I am now sure that all those obnoxious squirrels that lived in our backyard at Jackson's Creek followed us to the "Pitt". They devoured $30.00 worth of birdseed in 2 days and they have ruined the backyard looking for nuts they think they buried in the Fall. I am going out tomorrow to find something that will make them disappear.

Ted

Good news today, Ted Kennedy's brain cancer is in remission and he will return to the Senate after Memorial Day to play a major role in the cause he has fought for since 1972...health care reform. Do not fall for the ruse that we have the best health care system in the world. Can you really select your doctor? Sure, if he is on the list. I say go Teddy!

Emily and Brinkley

Emily finished her exams yesterday!!! That's 3 down and 1 to go!(years) Pat and I are very proud of her and we went out to Glass Half Full last night to celebrate.

Brinkley is starting law school at UGA in August!!!!!! Yes, she is moving again. We are so excited for her and Pat is especially happy that she will be in Bulldog land.

Things are busy in the "Pitt"

Well the LBTD referendum passed with a 65% majority...and you thought we had moved to the sticks. I expect restaurants and bars to open up like crazy.

Katrina and I walked "downtown" the other day and met a couple with a dog so natch we stopped to talk. Pat and Welford had moved to Pboro about 8 months ago and live in a neat house up on Salisbury Street. I remarked that I had seen people there doing work when we moved here, "We bought the house from the Squirrel Nut Zippers" Pat said "Have you heard of them?" "The Squirrel Nut Zippers!!!" I responded, "Sure!" I had no idea that such famous people lived right here in the "Pitt". http://www.snzippers.com/

Mr. Thomas of "Bottle House" fame has redone his junk. Those of you who have had the privilege of seeing this will be shocked and surprised. He has rearranged much of the junk and has started a bottle exhibit across the street...such an improvement for Firetower Road!

The backyard is really coming along and I will post some pics when more things bloom.

The man next door has cleaned up his front yard and there are NO pots in the driveway!!!!! But the back remains a disaster.

The little wren that has nested on our deck has laid eggs and she is sitting on them at all times. Katrina is very interested in what is going on in the planter...yikes!

So you see we are quite busy here in the "Pitt" with all this activity.
